I was one of those who not only come originally from this part of the World - Magilligan to be precise - but was also in general agreement to the location of a Wind Farm off the coast. It is this beautiful skyline against which the Wind Farm will be placed, should it come about.
We need to exploit renewable energy, and Wind Farms seem ideally suited to the purpose... I do now have my doubts - and they are not asthetic ones - they are disquiet about the lack of proper research, and the fact that most of the initial research has been handed to the consortium who will build ( and profit from) its construction.
After a discussion with some people locally who have considerable disquiet about this project - I now need to be re-assured that the decision will not be bulldosed through without due process.
A major point appears on the sand deposited on Portstewert, Castlerock and Magilligan strands. The building of so many windmills (2 to 3 times as large as their land based cousins) in the bay may well cause the sand deposits to appear around them, totally altering the seascape, and destroying the existing beaches and dunes.
